The Crasche Middie figure skating headband is low-profile head protection gear that works. I'm an adult figure skater who skated for many years before I had a concussion from someone who pushed off the boards without looking and ran into me. I used my son's hockey helmet for a few months, and it was comfortably protective but too bulky for figure skating. I felt lucky not to have suffered a serious TBI, but even a "mild" concussion felt pretty awful and I probably walked around like a zombie for a while. I didn't want to try my luck, so I knew I had to use my head and protect it even if it's not the norm in figure skating. After asking a bunch of questions to Crasche customer service (to which they always kindly replied), I ordered a Middie. It's comfortable and doesn't draw attention to itself. I do notice that it's sweaty when I get off ice and sometimes after a few hours it seems a little tight, but it's not a big deal. Most importantly, I can say it works. I recently caught an edge and slammed straight onto the side of my face. My cheek was deeply bruised and I developed a black eye, but my head was fine. I realized I would have hit my head if I hadn't been wearing the headband. I think it saved me from a concussion and probably cushioned the fall enough that I didn't break a cheekbone. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to any skater who is looking for head protection.
